About the Gruffalo Trail

Rathos Byres Forge, Edinburgh, were commissioned to make the Mouse and Gruffalo figures in galvanized steel and have produced exceptional examples of the contemporary blacksmith's art. This original approach works well alongside the metalwork gates and benches that the team at Ratho Byres Forge have previously designed for Ardkinglas. The lattice structure of the sculptures links in with the intertwining branches of the surrounding trees and magically captures the book's principal characters while allowing the children's imagination to bring them to life.

The project has been made possible by the enthusiastic participation of Magic Light Pictures, London, who licence the brand material and also the generous cooperation of Macmillan Children's Books and Black and White Publishing Ltd.

'Absolutely loved this walk, we both enjoy nature the information at various stages is very helpful it was wet when we started but it cleared as we walked around. The fairy grounds were wonderful sure visiting children would love it, a great way to get them interested in nature, I'm in my sixties and still believe in fairies. A beautiful walk definitely recommend'.

'Stunning, breathtaking, magnificent just a few words that came to mind as we walked through the woodland. If you love nature, you need to visit this place. You will not be disappointed. For £5 you can experience one of the most wonderful woodlands you will ever experience. It was so beautiful, we made an extra donation of £20. It's kept in great condition, the single Gardner has there work cut out for them, but it's flawless. There is something for everyone on this walk. I won't go I to details so not to give away spoilers, but there are some truly rare and exceptional trees on this walk'

'Amazing place for a day out! Themed walks for children, and longer, scenic ones for the more adventurous! Stunning views, the tallest of trees and a beautifully kept woodland paradise to explore. The PERFECT day out.

This is an unbelievable place. Absolutely beautiful and breathtaking scenery around every bend. The best value for money attraction I've ever been to. Wish I lived closer as I'd be there every day if I could be! Saw red squirrels and tree creepers amongst others. The gardening team were friendly and cheerful. I cannot recommend this garden enough! For nature lovers, ornithologists and gardeners this is a must see location. Highly recommend
