Alistair MacCallum was born in Glen Fyne and has lived and worked on Ardkinglas Estate all his life as did his father before him. Alistair’s father was a ghillie and Alastair was a stalker and shepherd. Alistair has, amongst other things, taken over the role of ranger showing people around the estate. He has a wealth of knowledge on local and natural history.
Ranger Led Policy Walks start at the Estate Office and take in the some of the estate on the east side of Loch Fyne; through part of the arboretum, some commercial forestry and then down to the shore and back past the oyster grading sheds. Time: 2 hours. This walk can be muddy but is on paths.
The Land Rover Trip up Glen Fyne starts at the Tree Shop at Clachan and goes up Glen Fyne. At Inverchorachan you will hear some history of the old school house and from there the walk heads further up the Glen with perhaps the chance of spotting a Golden Eagle. Total time: 3 hours; Walking 2 hours mainly on paths. Boots required.
On the Ardkinglas House Tours you will see and hear about the history of the house including its design and construction by Sir Robert Lorimer. There are marvellous plaster ceilings, oak panelled walls and ornate light fittings and fireplaces. You can continue with a walk around the house gardens, not normally open to the public. We limit numbers to ensure that everyone can see and hear the guide. Time: 1¼ hours. Please bring some form of identification with you.
There are Film Themed Tours on occasional Saturdays explaining where various scenes from various films took place. Please see the main events page for dates
